Conservatives, moderates and liberals of both political parties should join hands together in Richmond to approve the governor’s fee and tax increases to fund the expansion of VRE’s operations. The
railroad wants to buy more locomotives to replace its unreliable ones. It also wants to add an additional morning train to the Fredericksburg Line and an additional evening train on the Manassas Line.
Also the mid-morning Manassas Line train would be restored.
Booming VRE ridership, massive highway congestion, $4 a gallon gas and the threat of a terrorist attack demands that this be done. VRE has a proven pro-consumer, pro-life, pro-child, pro senior citizen,
pro-energy conservation, pro-environment, pro-veteran, pro-national security and pro-public safety track record.
Above all VRE adds time to our lives. Time is really more valuable than money because we start losing time the day we are born. Keeping taxes and fees low to starve the railway will mean less time to
spend with our friends, spouses, children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Every VRE train is really a collection of four to eight long “sweet chariots” pulled by a diesel locomotive that swings down low enough to take us from our homes to our places of work and back again but
swings high enough to avoid the nasty highway congestion of Northern Virginia. Let’s have more “sweet chariots” now! Contact your local state senators and delegates to make this happen.
