A good starting point in government budget matters is to be fiscally conservative. That means setting tax dollar spending priorities so that really essential services are first. Conservatives should demand this approach be applied in unison to all levels of government.
The feds are bleeding red everywhere. Billions a week go into a futile Iraq war where some conservatives think it would be worth staying the course for 100 years. Congressional pork barrel projects are ubiquitous. Some are so bad the sponsors don’t want to be named. Meanwhile the state has a $1.2 billion or 6.9 percent budget gap. State pork barrel deals such as HOT lanes are rampant. Voters are told they make dollars and cents. Most know it is nonsense.
PWC government has all but given up on conserving funds. Projects such as chasing out ‘illegals’ that was sold as costing $5 million over 5 years now sneaks in at $25 million. This while there is a $50 million shortfall.
In a down housing market, facing increasing oil costs and with recession problems imminent, why is it those who claim to be conservatives don’t act conservative? Maybe they have a reason they don’t want to shared with voters.
