Two Hylton High School students were recently charged in connection with the stabbing of a fellow classmate off school grounds Tuesday afternoon, according to Prince William County police.
Police said two teenage boys were walking home from school around 12:42 p.m. in the area of Redford Lane and Rhode Island Drive in Dale City when the attack happened.
The boys, ages 16 and 17, reported to police that they exchanged words with their attackers and then a fight broke out, according to Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokesman.
Then the 17-year-old was stabbed in the chest, Hernandez said.
He was taken to a local hospital and was treated for a non life-threatening injury.
Police charged two Manassas-area teens, ages 17 and 18, in connection with the stabbing.
Daniel Kwame Walker, 18, residing at 9603 Flametree Court near Manassas, was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, Hernandez said.
Walker, who turned himself in to police late Tuesday afternoon, was held in lieu of a $3,000 bond and a May 12 court date.
Police have a petition to charge the juvenile with assault and battery, Hernandez said.
He was released to a parent and will have a hearing in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
