A Stephens City woman is facing felony charges related to a diamond scam she allegedly pulled on a jeweler in Prince William County.
According to police, 35-year-old Svetlana Toth returned two rings — one valued at more than $1,500 and the other at $3,150 — to Freidman’s Jewelers at Manassas Mall near Manassas on Feb. 21 and March 3.
On Saturday, Toth allegedly returned to the store to test her luck a third time, according to Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokeswoman.
But personnel were familiar with her and called police, Hernandez said.
Toth, of 1010 Bridle Court, was charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretense, police said.
She is accused of buying several rings, then replacing the diamonds with fake ones and returning them for a full refund.
It was later discovered that the returned rings were fake, police said.
Toth allegedly admitted to returning fake rings to police, according to documents on file at Prince William County Circuit Court.
Toth was held in lieu of a $3,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court May 14.
