Honoring the memory of Virginia Carper

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Manassas Community Chorale honored the memory of a Manassas native — Virginia Speiden Carper — with a concert of music by many of her favorite composers at The Manassas Baptist Church last night.

She lived to be 96 years old, was a church organist, piano teacher of 1000 students and a patron of the arts.

Under the professional direction of Rebecca D.Verner and accompanied by Jonathan Laird, the Chorale solemnly sang in Latin Franz Schubert’s Mass in G Major; Johannes Brahms German Lovesong
Waltzes and closed with Rossini’s William Tell Overture.

The City of Manassas’ SummerSoundsConcerts will begin with the Chorale’s Concert on June 21, at 6:30 p.m. at the Harris Pavilion.

If you miss their local performances, you can plan to attend their concert at Carnegie Hall in the fall.

Who knows? Maybe Manassas will finally get on the U.S. map as a “great place to live” thanks to the Chorale’s diverse, hard- working, community volunteers’ entertaining and positive image!
