This weekend the Republican Party of Virginia will be having a convention to choose their candidate for U. S. Senate. Our delegate Robert G. Marshall is running for that nomination. It is clear that our county’s road system has been underfunded for many years in proportion to the amount of funds we have put in the commonwealth’s coffers. Clearly our representatives are not delivering to their constituents to the degree they should.
Del. Marshall has been actively pushing a social agenda as opposed to infrastructure for our area.
This is not to say Del. Marshall does not work for positive land use. Indeed, he does have a record of working to address land use concerns in Richmond. However, if his striving to address social issues has caused him to lose effectiveness in the House of Delegates; if he has caused other delegates not to take his requests seriously, it could well explain his lack of effectiveness in delivering to his home district.
This Saturday, the Republican Party of Virginia will choose their nominee for U. S. Senator. They will show with this vote whether as a party they wish to focus on the social agenda of Del. Marshall or to support former Governor Gilmore’s approach to issues.
This will be a clear indication of whether Bob Marshall is seen by his fellow Republicans as an effective member of his party.
Were Governor Gilmore viewed as a powerful leader in Virginia, then a loss to him at the convention could be discounted; he is not.
Should Bob Marshall lose to Jim Gilmore, it will show that he is out of touch with the Republican Party of Virginia and has become an ineffective legislator.
