Rep. Frank Wolf will celebrate his third decade in Congress, thanks to a resounding win over Democratic challenger Judy Feder on Tuesday night.
The Republican incumbent in Virginia’s 10th District won 60 percent of the vote to Feder’s 37 percent to capture his 15th term, according to unofficial results from the State Board of Elections with 93 percent of the vote in. The 69-year-old has been in office the longest of the Old Dominion’s 11 House members.
Wolf won by an even larger margin than he did two years ago. In 2006, he defeated Feder 57 percent to 41 percent in the district, which includes Manassas, Winchester and parts of Prince William, Clarke, Fairfax, Frederick, Loudoun and Warren counties.
Wolf sits on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, where he is the senior Republican on the State and Foreign Operations subcommittee. He also serves on the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development subcommittee.
During the campaign, Wolf said that he has been the driving force behind nearly every major transportation initiative in the Prince William area during his tenure on Capitol Hill, including:
• Securing some $30 million in federal funding to help pay for ongoing improvements to the Interstate 66-U.S. 29 interchange in Gainesville.
• Pushing for safety improvement to the U.S. 29-Va. 234 interchange in Manassas National Battlefield Park.
• Getting federal funding to help build the Virginia Railway Express garage in Old Town Manassas and buying additional rail cars for VRE.
Wolf also noted that when violent gangs began threatening the area, he pulled together local, state and federal law enforcement officials to create an anti-gang task force.
Wolf could not be reached at press time.
