A 5-year-old boy was flown to Fairfax Hospital after the car he was riding in flipped over and crashed into an embankment.

Also inside was the boy’s sister who was taken to Potomac Hospital and his mother, the driver, who walked away from the crash.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. Friday and closed a portion of Neabsco Road near the campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

The injuries were not severe but rescue crews transported the children to the hospital as a precaution, according to P.E. Hill, Prince William police accident investigator.

Hill said the mother swerved to avoid hitting an animal, flipped the car and then crashed into the ditch.

The road was still closed at 8 a.m.
