A 33-year-old Gainesville man was flown to an area hospital with severe injuries Monday night after an SUV collided with his motorcycle, Prince William County police said.

Around 9:14 p.m., a 2001 Buell motorcycle was traveling on the right, through lane on Linton Hall Road when it was struck by a 2008 Lincoln Navigator that was attempting to turn right onto Whitney Drive from the center lane of Linton Hall Road, said Officer Erika Hernandez, police spokeswoman.

The motorcyclist was thrown off his motorcycle, Hernandez said.

Police identified the driver of the Lincoln as Shoukat Raza, 55, residing at 6046 Selwood Place in Springfield, Hernandez said.

Raza was charged with reckless driving, was released on a summons and has a scheduled court date of Oct. 21.
