A Canadian ex-teacher who traveled to Virginia to meet who he thought was a 13-year-old boy was sentenced Monday to serve 14 years in prison, according to court records.
Richard John Doucet, 37, of Lasalle, Quebec pleaded guilty earlier this year in Stafford County Circuit Court to eight felony charges: four counts of reproducing or distributing child pornography, two counts of using a computer to solicit sex with a minor and two counts of attempted indecent liberties with children.
He was sentenced Monday to 60 years in prison, with 46 of those years suspended.
He also faces charges in Prince William County and Fredericksburg.
In Fredericksburg Circuit Court, Doucet pleaded guilty to 25 counts of possessing child pornography and is set to be sentenced next week.
In Prince William County, Doucet faces four counts of reproducing child pornography, two counts of using a computer to solicit sex with a minor and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.
He’s set to appear in Prince William Circuit Court on those charges on Sept. 2.
According to court documents, Dumfries police Officer John Chapman, posing as a 13-year-old boy from Virginia, began chatting with Doucet on the Internet on Jan. 20, 2008.
During the internet chats, in January and February 2008, Doucet made sexual comments towards the officer and sent him four images of nude boys, court documents state.
Chapman chatted with Doucet on computers in Prince William and Stafford Counties, court documents state.
On May 9 2008, Doucet arranged to fly to Virginia to meet the fictional 13-year-old boy at a Fredericksburg hotel.
Fredericksburg police staked out the hotel and arrested Doucet.
Police officers found many images of child pornography Doucet’s computer at the time of his arrest, court documents state.
According to Canadian news reports, Doucet was an elementary school teacher at the Selwyn House, a private all-boys school. School officials there say he is not accused of any crimes against students there, according to the news reports.
