A new poll finds that more Virginians disapprove of President Barack Obama's performance in office than approve of him.

The poll by Public Policy Polling shows him with a 42 percent approval rating, while 51 percent disapprove. That's down from a positive 48-46 percent rating a month ago.

The poll taken July 31 to Aug. 3 surveyed 579 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percent.

Fifty-three percent of Virginians believe Obama was born in the United States, while 24 percent think he was not. Another 24 percent are unsure.

The poll showed Gov. Timothy M. Kaine's popularity slipping also. His approval rating was 42-40 percent, down from 49-38 percent a month ago. U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner remains popular. His favorability rating is 56 percent to 32 percent.
