Neighborhood news: Recent fire and rescue grads

The Prince William County Department of Fire & Rescue recently held their graduation for the 09-10 Recruit Class at the Ferlazzo Building, with Battalion Chief Shawn Crispin presiding over the ceremony. The graduates are: Brian Anderson, James MacDonald, John Becker, Brendan Malone, Jay Byler, Brian Milchak, Dmitry Charit, Justin Miller, John Gillon, Dale Mincks, Christo-pher Holroyd, Joshua Owens, Katelyn Kenner, Chad Rabatin, Stephen King, Brian Reader, Kyle Kosinski, Matthew Stewart, Keith Kraus, Rene Vega, Jeff Kwak, John Vines, Christopher Lau-tenschlager, Eric Weaver, Louis Lewis and David Wesley, Congratulations Recruit Grads and thank you for your hard work and your service to our community!

Free Internet Basics

at Potomac Library

Head over to the Potomac Library Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. for all the basics on how to surf the web. This two-hour class will help familiarize you with how to use the Internet if you have been wanting to utilize it and just didn't know how. There are many people who still aren't comfort-able using it these days: moms, dads, grandparents or those getting familiar with technology for the first time in their lives. Learn how to use Google, how to copy, cut and paste to Word, how to get to a specific net address. Please call the library itself for more details at 703-494-8126.

Registration for Northern Virginia Community College

Registration for fall classes is now under way. Students may register in person at one of the many Northern Virginia Community College Campuses in Woodbridge, Alexandria, Annandale, Loudon, Manassas and Springfield. The 16-week session fall session begins Aug. 24, and they also offer two eight-week sessions starting Aug. 24 or Oct. 21. Hundreds of Distance Learning courses are also available for students who prefer independent studies. For distance learning, visit eli.nvcc.edu. For more, contact them at 703-323-3000.

Literacy Volunteers

of America need help

Reading is the key to making ends meet in today's world. Still there are many who cannot read in our community. Retaining a job is a daily challenge for them. They often come to Literacy Volunteers of America asking for help. If you would like to help someone learn to read please give them a call at 703-670-5702.
