Edward Toth, 48, of Nokesville was killed when his ultralight plane crashed into Lake Anna, Louisa County, on Sunday afternoon.
His 17-year-old daughter, Heather, was a passenger in the plane and survived. Police say she is being treated at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.
Virginia State Police said the plane was housed in a hangar in Tappahannock and Toth had taken it out for a leisure trip around Lake Anna.
The plane took off, lost altitude and crashed into Lake Anna. The accident happened 100 yards off Carrs Bridge Road in Louisa County near Dike 1. The site is south of the North Anna nuclear power plant.
Heather will be is a senior at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville.
She and her younger sister, Amanda, were both dancers at Stage Door Dance Studio in Manassas.
Julie Colgan, studio owner, sent out a notice to her students saying, “It is with much sadness that I am writing this e-mail to inform you that Ted Toth (Heather and Amanda’s father) was killed today in his ultralight airplane at Lake Anna. Heather was in the plane but survived the crash with little injury. Please keep Lisa, Heather and Amanda in your prayers.”
Police said the plane is submerged.
