Lions Club - Did you Know...

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Let me introduce you to the Lions Club and a typical Lions Club meeting. Our main goals are to raise funds to help those in need of visual and hearing assistance plus diabetes and to help our community and its residence. Lions Club meetings usually start out with a half hour of meet and greet where we catch up with each other and greet our visitors. When the meeting is called to order we all stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer and then a song to lift our spirits.

All of the guests are introduced and basic topics that we will cover may be mentioned. At most meetings we have a guest speaker from the community to cover a topic that we think will benefit from our contributions whether it’s monetary or physically putting time in to help.

After a great meal and conversation is when the speaker gives their presentation followed by our clubs business. We decide on and discuss fundraisers, people in need of our assistance, events planned for community outreach and other related topics. During the meeting we have a “Tailtwister” who helps keep the atmosphere positive and most clubs have a 50/50 raffle which helps earn the club money as well as a member.

We recognize accomplishments of individual members via certificates, medals and pins. Most everything positive, including our guests attendance, is applauded. We believe in making each other feel good about all of our good work.

The Lions Club is a non-profit organization that relies on the community to raise funds in order to help others in the community. So, if you’re interested in attending a meeting, becoming a member, donating time or money, receiving assistance or giving a Lions Club a presentation on your community outreach program, please contact the club nearest you. You can log onto the Virginia Lions Club website at http://LionsofVirginia.org and find the club nearest you. You may also call me directly, Lion Hope Burke, at 703-496-7389 and I’ll try to direct you in the right direction.

Take care and God Bless.
