This year's fair features several demonstrators

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Although there are the usual demonstrators of knitting and crocheting in the Home Arts Building at the Prince William County Fair opening today, there are also some new exciting demonstrations planned this year.

For example, there is C. Pond Brothers IV, who will be demonstrating frame by frame animation.

What makes Brothers really interesting is that he is 10 years old and already has numerous animated videos under this belt.

He will be among the first demonstrators at the fair, doing his demonstration from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on opening day.

Bob Bishop, a wheelchair-bound retiree, will be sharing his clocks as he demonstrates working on a scroll saw. Bonnie Swank will share how to tat -- a way of making lace --and Elena Wright will show stained glass making.

Darlene Jones will return with her spinning wheel and show how to spin and Claire Zezula will do paper cutting. Eight-year-old Cassie Minihan will be knitting with her mom and 10- and 9-year-old sister and brother team.

Julia and Jacob Snyder will share quilt making using their mom's quilts (they quilt as well.) C. J. Green, 16, will be drawing and painting, as will Renee LeCompte. Nancy Hilleary and Bobbie Reeder will show decorative painting.

Jean Caddy and Linda Allison will share scrapbooking, and Sherry Donnick will do crocheted beaded rope jewelry.

Paper crafts, cards and books will be done by several demonstrators and there will be knitting, crocheting, crewel work, embroidery and cross stitching. Demonstrators will be in the Home Arts building most times it is open during the fair that runs through Aug. 22.

Tony Mayo will be demonstrating knitting both opening day from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Aug. 21 the same time.

There will be nine demonstrators in action on Saturday.

They include Judy Jellen doing paper and foundation piecing, Harriette Siler doing quilting on English paper piecing and Rikki Marshall crocheting from 12:30 to 3 p.m.; Gretchen Snyder and Evenly Thompson doing paper crafts and Swank tatting from 3 to 5:30 p.m.; and Mary LeCompte doing smocking, Renee LeCompte, painting and drawing and Sharon Deemer, broomstick lace.

Friday is half-price day at the fair, with the gate admission being $3.50 and $8 unlimited ride armband. The fair opens at 3 p.m.
