The Olympic team from Tiger Martial Arts Academy of Montclair attended the 2nd Annual Virginia State Governor’s Cup Tae Kwon Do Championship, which took place Aug. 15 in Annandale.
This was the team’s first tournament of the 2009-10 season.
The team of 12, ranging in age from 5 to 45, had many outstanding performances in both the Forms and Olympic Sparring competitions.
After some tough opposition and many hours of anticipation, they managed to bring home four first-place trophies and two second-place trophies in Forms, as well as six first-place trophies and four second-place trophies in the Olympic Sparring competition.
On top of these achievements, Tiger Martial Arts students Daniel Miyamasu and Justin Ladson brought home two 5-foot Grand Champion trophies in the Color Belts Forms and Black Belt Division Olympic Sparring competitions, bringing the overall total to 18 trophies.
TMA will travel to Leesburg on Oct. 3 to compete in the “Kick Cancer out of the World Championship.”
