In preparation for a year-long traffic shift on Interstate-95 south, the Virginia Department of Transportation will shut down two of three southbound lanes on the Occoquan bridge while crews re-stripe the roadway. The lane closures will be in effect from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., today and Tuesday. This work is weather permitting and the backup night is Wednesday.
Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes in the work zone. This lane closure will begin two miles north of Exit 160 and continue over the Occoquan River bridge. Traffic might be stopped for short periods on ramps to Va. 123 for the safety of crews. For the next year the left shoulder on either side and over the Occoquan bridge will be closed.
The I-95/395 HOV reversible lanes will remain open heading south until midnight during this work.
On Aug. 27, the right lane of northbound I-95 will be closed overnight near Exit 161 to U.S. 1 as crews hoist steel beams for the I-95 bridge over Furnace Road. Furnace Road will close for 15-minute intervals from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.
