A renovation to the deck and playground area of the Transitional Housing BARN in Bristow was recently done by the Virginia Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors.
A statewide association representing 630 commercial and construction and construction-related firms, the contractors volunteered to refinish the deck as well as clean up the children’s playground.
The contractors donated materials and labor for a scope of work that included sanding, straining and landscaping.
The volunteers included American Systems Corp., HITT Contracting Inc., Loudoun County Public Schools, R. W. Murray Co., Sunbelt Rentals, Thesis Painting, Wachovia Insurance Services Inc. and Wells Fargo Insurance Services.
“What a great bunch of people that showed up to volunteer their own time to help such a great organization as the BARN,” said Jim Richbourg, R.W. Murray Co., community service committee chairman for the organization. “Thanks to Sunbelt for saving the day with two large walk behind sanders and Thesis Painting that supplied the stain along with belt sanders. It was a very hot day and everyone worked together to make this project a success.”
The contractors completed a renovation to the reception area of the Loudoun Citizens for Social Justice/LAWS last year and in 2007 the association completed a three-year project to building the Hopkins House Child Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Founded in 1972, the association is the only one in Virginia that is dedicated to representing the interests of merit shop contractors.
BARN provides temporary housing and supportive services to homeless women and their children.
