Police are looking for the driver who hit and fatally injured a Gainesville man Monday night.
Emmanuel Yeboah, 26, was bicycling from work to his home on Legend Glenn Court when he was hit along the right northbound shoulder of U.S. 29, just north of Lake Manassas Drive, Prince William County police said.
He was found unconscious by a passing driver after 10 p.m. and was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with extensive injuries to his head and body, said police 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn.
Yeboah died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Chinn said.
The victim was wearing dark clothing and was not wearing a bicycle helmet, said Chinn.
The car that struck Yeboah may have been gray or silver, she said.
Earlier this month, a 35-year-old Woodbridge man was killed while attempting to cross U.S. 1.
Wilfredo Garcia Romero, 35, of 1900 Stevens Road #1303 in Woodbridge, was crossing the highway about 5:45 a.m. Aug. 7 when he was struck by a 2000 Chevy Express van driven by a 29-year-old Woodbridge man. The victim was then struck by a second van — a 2007 Dodge Sprinter that was driven by a 45-year-old man from Dumfries.
Romero was pronounced dead at the scene and was not using a crosswalk when he was struck, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez. The crash closed the highway for three hours.
