Two non-profit groups, Capital Hospice and St. Raphael Orthodox Mission Church, have joined together for a fundraiser in Haymarket on Saturday.
Piedmont Country Club will host the gala benefit, which will feature a “Casino Night” and silent auction including a dinner buffet, fun money and refreshment.
Tickets can still be purchased at the door.
The event will offer attendees the opportunity to support the patient and family care work of Capital Hospice. Serving people with serious progressive illness in Northern Virginia, its volunteer care reaches to Prince William, Loudoun and Fauquier counties.
“We still [need] more people to come out and support the two groups,” said Julie Weatherington, community outreach at Capital.
One of the first nonprofit provides of hospice care in the United States, today, they are the largest in the Washington region. More than 55,000 patients and families have been served since 1977.
The pairing of St. Raphael with Capital evolves from hospice care being administered to several parishioners and their families during recent serious illness.
The church members were interested in showing their support of the organization. In keeping with the church’s vision statement, the congregation strives to be a force for good within the Centreville community.
Members have made and distributed hundreds of lunches and collected more that 200 pounds of canned goods for the Reston shelter. Support has also been given to Food for Hungry.
The church is part of the Self-Ruled Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, which traces its roots in unbroken apostolic succession to the first century Antioch, in which city the disciples of Jesus were first called “Christians.”
