Emphasizing its focus and commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and building a world-class health care facility, DeWitt Army Community Hospital leaders recently celebrated 600 days from opening the new Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.
The celebration included a number of events throughout the week of Aug. 10 to promote camaraderie and esprit de corps among staff members, as well as emphasize the importance of the unit’s three themes - A Culture of Excellence, Patient- and Family-Centered Care, and Evidence-Based Design.
DeWitt leadership kicked the week’s celebration off by launching a new logo, followed by the DeWitt Mind-Body-Spirit Fun Run/Walk. The triangle-shaped logo, featuring the new community hospital in its center outlined with the unit’s three themes, celebrated the unit’s dedication to patients, while the fun run/walk celebrated the importance of maintaining mental, spiritual and physical fitness to sustain the staff throughout the transition to the new hospital.
Providing care to patients and sustaining the current facility while developing new processes to improve access to care and establish the hospital as a world-class medical care provider during transition to a new facility is no easy task, said hospital commander Col. Charles W. Callahan.
Ensuring fitness in these areas is extremely important as we strive to be recognized nationally as the Culture of Excellence in patient, family and warrior care,” he said.
Hospital leadership and staff also celebrated the 600th day from opening the new hospital by establishing the unit’s first organized Motorcycle Mentorship Program ride. Thirteen riders consisting of staff members, the hospital commander and hospital Command Sgt. Maj. Mark Dennis took to the streets to promote safe riding and the unit’s “One Team” motto.
After breakfast and a couple hours of riding through the District of Columbia area, Callahan and Dennis arrived at the P2 Field on Fort Belvoir to kick off the DeWitt Organization Day events - the final celebration to mark 600 days from the new hospital’s opening.
