Prince William County police are searching for a man who tried to rob a check-cashing business in Woodbridge Monday afternoon.

A mustachioed man wearing a makeshift turban walked into Eagle Check Cashing about 1:30 p.m., said police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.

He was armed with a handgun and handed a note demanding money to a store clerk, Hernandez said.

When the clerk refused to comply, the man pointed the gun at a customer, she said.

But he didn’t fare any better than he did with the clerk.

“The guy didn’t get any money,” Hernandez said.

No one was injured in the incident on U.S. 1.

The suspect, who drove away in a red, two-door car, is described as a 6-foot-tall black man, Hernandez said.

He was wearing sunglasses, a white shirt and dark-colored pants, she said. A white T-shirt with a black headband holding it covered his head.

Staff writer Jonathan Hunley can be reached at 703-369-5738.
