VDOT is adding a fourth general purpose lane to I-95 in each direction from U.S. 123 just before the Occoquan River to the Fairfax County Parkway. The agency says this will relieve chronic bottlenecking and improve traffic flow to and from the Springfield Interchange. Construction of the six-mile widening project began in early 2008 and will be completed by late fall 2011.
