Long-time Prince William County School Board member Julie C. Lucas is resigning her post effective Dec. 31 due to family reasons.
Lucas, who has served on the board since 2002 as the Neabsco District representative, announced her tearful goodbye at the end of Wednesday's board meeting. This fall,
Lucas has been traveling often to help take care of her infirmed father and will have to move out of state in order to best assist him.
Senior board member Donald P. Richardson-Gainesville District, who started his stint a year before Lucas, said she will be missed.
"I never dreamed we would be replacing her," Richardson said. "That's hard. That's big shoes to fill."
Lucas is the president and owner of Lucas Financial Group, an independent financial services company, and says she will still make several trips back to Virginia a year to assist her clients.
