GOP congressional candidate Keith Fimian has received endorsements from the House minority whip and several local Republicans over the past few days.
Fimian seeks to unseat Rep. Gerald E. "Gerry" Connolly, a Democrat who represents most of Prince William County.
The Oakton businessman lost to Connolly last year in the race for the 11th District seat.
But Fimian hopes for a different outcome next year during the midterm election.
He attended a lot of campaign events in the Prince William area during the past election season, and he has since announced endorsements from Dels. L. Scott Lingamfelter and Robert G. "Bob" Marshall, county Republicans who were both re-elected last month.
Board of County Supervisors Chairman Corey A. Stewart and Supervisor Mike May also have officially backed Fimian.
"His real world business experience creating jobs is just what we need in Washington," Stewart said in a prepared statement. "The big spenders in Congress have totally failed to address the desperate economic circumstances of Prince William families."
Fimian also was endorsed Wednesday by one of Virginia's most prominent congressmen: Minority Whip Eric Cantor, the second-ranking House Republican.
"We are in a battle for the direction of our country," he said in a prepared statement. "That's why I am enthusiastically endorsing Keith Fimian for Congress. Keith Fimian is a passionate believer in smaller, more effective government."
Fimian also has been identified by the National Republican Congressional Committee's "Young Guns" program as a Republican challenger who can defeat a Democratic incumbent.
