Depending on where you live , a dose of Mother Nature could be heading your way tonight.
A flood watch begins this evening in Manassas, Manassas Park, Prince William County, and for much of the Washington area until Wednesday morning, according to the weather service.
Although precipitation may begin as a wintry mix this evening, warmer temperatures will change the precipitation to rain tonight with an extended period of moderate to heavy rain. A total of three inches could fall. The rain will help further melt existing snow on the ground in some areas, adding to the amount of runoff, according to the weather service.
Areas west of Prince William County, could expect more winter weather. A winter storm watch has been issued for Fauquier, Loudoun, and other counties west of Prince William. Those areas could see freezing rain and/or sleet.
The word of winter weather again has the Virginia Department of Transportation working to treat the roads before the storm arrives.
By 1 p.m. Tuesday, crews aim to have many trouble spots on area highways, such as Interstates 66, 95, 395, and the Capital Beltway, said VDOT spokeswoman Joan Morris.
Crews will treat major overpasses, like the Springfield interchange, with a mixture of magnesium chloride. Other majors roads, such as U.S. 1, Va. 28 and 123 will be treated with a mixture of salt brine, added Morris.
A total of 670 trucks should be on the roads this afternoon, using salt and sand, and drivers are urged to keep at least a five second distance as the trucks are used to treat the roads.
The Wednesday's weather forecast, it will be mostly rainy throughout the day with temperatures in the high 40s. Skies will clear for Thursday, and then there is a chance for snow over the weekend, according to the weather service.
