A man who eluded police was found hiding under his bed Friday morning after he and another man stole a car, tried to ram a police cruiser with it, and then crashed it into a fence, authorities said.
An officer searching for a stolen car attempted to stop the car while it was at a convenience store in the area of Prince William Parkway and Hillendale Drive in Dale City about 2 a.m. Friday, Prince William police spokeswoman Sharon Richardson said on Monday.
The driver of the car refused to stop and then tried to ram the police cruiser, said Richardson. The officer was able to get out of the way of the oncoming car, she added.
The car then stopped on nearby Trowbridge Road after it ran over a fence belonging to the Prince William County Park Authority. The two men inside jumped out of the car and tried to hide along the road, Richardson said.
Police then charged the man, James E. Guess, 19, of 13207 Hillendale Drive, with grand larceny, conspiracy to commit a felony and petit larceny.
Police continued to search for the second man and called the SWAT team to 4210 Hemmingway Drive in Dale City, Richardson said.
There, under his bed, they found Terry A. Johnson, 24, Richardson said.
He was charged with grand larceny, attempted malicious wounding of a police officer, conspiracy to commit a felony and two counts of larceny from auto.
