LAKE RIDGE, Va. - A Woodbridge woman was flown to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after the car she was driving collided with an OmniLink transit bus in Lake Ridge, police said.
A passenger on the bus was also taken to the hospital after suffering injuries during the crash, said Prince William police spokeswoman Erika Hernandez.
Police said the 76-year-old woman was driving a 2004 Acura when she pulled onto Old Bridge Road from a business center on Wood Hollow Road, about 1:40 p.m.
After the woman entered the four-lane road she collided with the transit bus, said Hernandez.
Initial reports from the scene indicate the woman had to be cut out of her car.
There were seven people onboard the bus, including the driver, when the car and bus collided, said Hernandez.
The extent of the woman’s injuries, or those of the victim onboard the bus remain unknown at this time, said Hernandez.
Police are still investigating the crash.
A spokeswoman for the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, the agency which operates OmniLink bus service, said they also have personnel on the scene investigating the crash.
Because of the recent winter weather OmniLink is operating on a snow emergency plan today, offering free rides on all of its routes in Manassas, Manassas Park and Prince William County.
After operating on a similar snow plan Monday, OmniRide commuter buses, which serve stops in Washington and Arlington, returned to normal operation Tuesday morning.
