LETTER: Farewell from Jeff Frederick

»  Comments | Post a Comment

With the 2009 election behind us and my successor having been elected, this should be my last update to citizens of the 52nd District as delegate.

While it hasn't made me the most popular person in Richmond, I've always put principle over politics and partnered with anyone willing to place the people ahead of the special interests. I have worked day and night to provide honest, pro-active, responsive and accessible representation to better the lives of those I represent -- as well as all Virginians.

It is likely you and I haven't agreed on things 100 percent of the time, but you always knew where I stood, and I always welcomed your thoughts and point-of-view. And, I've doggedly kept my promises and have done what I said I'd do, even when it's been difficult.

One of those promises was to not seek re-election this year. So, as you might imagine, this past November was somewhat bittersweet for Amy and me.

While we are delighted to take a break from public life and excited about the opportunities doing so affords us and our family, we've also truly loved serving you and our community these past three terms in the General Assembly (and I say "us" because it really has been a team effort). The people we've met and the relationships we've built over the years are genuinely special and something we will cherish well into the future.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to be able to represent the people of Eastern Prince William County in the House of Delegates, and that honor was only enhanced by becoming the first Hispanic to ever serve in elected Virginia government.

Thank you! I hope and pray that I served you well and earned the trust and confidence you instilled in me.

Shortly after the election, I met with your delegate-Elect and pledged my office's complete cooperation for whatever transition might be necessary.

Our staffs are working together to ensure that there is no gap in the constituent services we provide, and it is my hope you will continue to have an aggressive and accountable voice in Richmond fighting for your priorities.

I've posted a letter and brief update to my old campaign Web site at www.votejeff.com. To the extent it is practical, Amy and I also intend to continue to keep in touch with you. I will periodically send updates out on my e-mail list (signup at www.va52.com); I'll try to keep a blog or Web site active and we will be active in the community through our charitable activities. We look forward to seeing you around the community and hope you will keep in touch with us.

Our very best wishes are with you.

Have a wonderful and blessed holiday season. Thank you again for blessing us so richly.

Most sincerely and God bless.

JEFF FREDERICK
