Manassas Mend-A-House to 'raise a barn'

»  Comments | Post a Comment

If you are interested in embracing the community spirit that comes with raising a barn, you will want to support a local non-profit organization's mission.

Want to enjoy an evening with friends and family and rekindling memories of simpler days gone by?

Project Mend-A-House has come up with a perfect way for adults to prepare for spring with its first-ever "Pioneer Days Barn Raiser."

Residents can come celebrate as the pioneers did when they completed building a barn, while raising funds to support the non-profit's organization's mission of completing much-needed home repairs and safety modifications to local seniors, disabled and low-income residents.

The event will be held March 14 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 9290 Stonewall Drive, Manassas. From 6 to 10 p.m., those attending will have the opportunity to experience the joys of an old-fashioned barn raiser, complete with a catered dinner from Georgetown Caterers of Occoquan.

There will be plenty of activities including a pie-eating contest, a quilting bee, and in the spirit of camaraderie and fair play, a strong man and woman's competition.

The award-winning and 2009 nominee for three WAMMIEs, Washington-based Dead Men's Hollow, will provide the evening's entertainment.

Tickets are $75 and may be purchased by contacting the office at 703-792-76636 or e-mailing andrea@
