On February 3rd, 2009 Chairman Corey Stewart stated the Board of Supervisors would work with VOICE, Virginians Organized for Inter-Faith Community Engagement, to craft the revision of the housing chapter of the comprehensive plan. This plan is designed to guide development in the county, both short- and long-term. To date, no meeting or contact has been initiated by the Board of County Supervisors and the vote on the housing chapter of the comprehensive plan is scheduled for Tuesday, February 17th, 2009 at 7:30 pm.
One hundred VOICE leaders plan to attend the meeting to demand the following:
1. Defer the vote on the Comprehensive Plan.
2. Set a specific date for a work session with VOICE.
3. Work together to make changes that are mutually acceptable.
Of primary concern is the need for the Board to work with VOICE and members of the community to develop a comprehensive plan that truly addresses the housing needs of the entire community. Among the issues being addressed is the need to develop affordable housing opportunities and neighborhood resources for low- and moderate-income area residents by implementing appropriate policies and programs.
VOICE is a grass roots, interfaith organization of forty religious institutions, established to work for social justice for all citizens of Northern Virginia. VOICE invites members of the public to attend the meeting at 7:30 pm at the McCoart Building.
