Prince William Fire Chief Kevin J. McGee is scheduled to appear at a press conference Tuesday night to discuss the circumstances of the death of Dale City Volunteer firefighter recruit Cecilia Turnbough.
Turnbough, 42, collapsed on Nov. 9 during a training exercise at the Prince William County Public Safety Academy.
An emergency medical technician for more than eight years with the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, Turnbough was studying to become a firefighter when she died.
She collapsed inside “the maze” — a training simulator that uses no smoke or fire, but requires students to use oxygen masks and full breathing gear to simulate being inside an actual burning building.
She was the first volunteer fire department recruit in Prince William to die during training, said county Fire Marshal Hadden Culp, shortly after she died.
“The investigative team formed by Chief Kevin J. McGee, in cooperation and support of Chief Hool of the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department, has completed the comprehensive investigation. The investigative team was composed of six fire and rescue organizations in the metropolitan area,” said Randy Earl, Prince William Fire and Rescue spokesman.
The press conference is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. tonight at the McCoart Building at the Prince William County Government Center in Woodbridge.
