Manassas man hit by car
Police said an intoxicated man was hit by a car while trying to cross a busy Manassas road on Sunday.
They were called to the corner of Mathis and Liberia avenues about midnight for a report of a man who was lying on the sidewalk, said city police spokesman Sgt. Tim Neumann.
When they arrived all the man was able to say to the officers is that "that car would not stay," said Neumann.
Police used his cell phone to identify the man, and learned that he had left from his home on Overhill Drive in Manassas Park on his bicycle. He was headed for a convenience store on the corner of Mathis and Liberia avenues, and his girlfriend told police that he had been drinking heavily all day, said Neumann.
Police found his bike chained to a telephone pole in the 8600 block of Va. 28, two blocks from where he was found on the ground.
A few hours later Neumann said the man was more responsive and was able to tell police that he chained his bike to the pole and attempted to cross Va. 28 and was struck by a blue Ford Mustang.
The man suffered minor injuries and the driver of the Mustang has not been located.
