Lana A. Conner was honored for her 40 years of service to Manassas Park with a luncheon given by her fellow employees and a resolution of appreciation by the City Council.
Conner's career began with the city on July 21, 1969, holding several positions before being named the city clerk on May 10, 1976 --a position she has held since then.
The resolution reads in part "Conner's service in both her public and private life has been given willingly and cheerfully and she has contributed immeasurably to the success of the community endeavors and to the betterment of the quality of life for many of her follow citizens and the city."
At the luncheon conducted in her honor, City Manager Mercury Payton said, "Conner knows every-thing about the city government … and she has earned the admiration of those with whom she has worked with through the years."
Conner said she has no plans to retire.
"I love my love job … there is no reason for me to leave," she said.
Conner recalls his first day she was due to come to work.
"It was the day of the historic Apollo 11 moon landing … and it was holiday so I got a day off with pay before even going to work," she said.
City Planner Vanessa Watson described Conner as
"being awesome."
"Everyone goes to her for information… you can count her knowing everything that has happened in the Park in the past 40 years… down to what took place in a public hearing years ago."
The resolution signed by Mayor Frank Jones noted that "Conner has earned the affection of her fellow public servants who are proud to call her 'friend' and desires to express its sincere appreciation for 40 years of service to the city and its citizens and to extend to her its gratitude for that service."
