Alex Huppert, 17-year-old rising senior of Battlefield High School in Haymarket, was presented a Red Cross “Extraordinary Action” award by Prince William American Red Cross CEO Karen Wayne at a Live! At Evergreen concert at the Evergreen Manor House in Haymarket.
“Thanks to your quick action a young man now has the opportunity to live a full and happy life,” said Wayne as she presented the award to Alex.
Alex performed life saving CPR on a young neighbor boy who suffered respiratory arrest in the driveway of his home until Prince William Fire and Rescue personnel arrived.
Fire and Rescue personnel from the Antioch Road station were also present to recognize Alex’s heroic efforts.
“Alex’s actions underscore the importance of everyone in this community (Prince William), in fact this nation, knowing the steps needed to save a life using CPR and first aid,” Wayne said.
This point was also reiterated during the presentation by Dr. Ivan Harangozo, a board member of the Prince William Red Cross and resident of the Evergreen community.
As a result of this incident, Evergreen residents are planning a community-wide American Red Cross CPR and first aid training session. More than 30 community members are expected to attend.
Red Cross training is available to the public. For more information on American Red Cross CPR, first aid and other life saving courses in the Prince William, Manassas, Manassas Park area, visit www.pwarc.org or call 703-368-4511.
