Red Cross offers babysitter camp
Girls and boys ages 11 to 15 years old can learn safer sitter skills, help families and communities and increase their earning potential when they attend the Prince William American Red Cross Babysitter Boot Camp on July 30 and 31 at the First AME Church in Manassas from 9:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The cost is $100 and campers can register at www.pwarc.org.

During the two days, campers will learn how to take care of children and infants; handle emergencies such as injuries, illness and household accidents; practice Red Cross CPR techniques appropriate for infants and for children; learn Red Cross standard first aid; and find out what it takes to be a good leader and role model.

The $100 camp fee includes Red Cross certifications for Baby Sitter Training, Infant and Child CPR and Standard First Aid; Red Cross Babysitter’s Handbook for use in class and on the job; an Emergency Reference Guide to help a sitter handle common emergencies; a binder to keep materials organized; a Red Cross first aid kit and breathing barrier; and a CD-ROM loaded with interactive tools to help a camper run her own babysitting business.

The Prince William American Red also offers a variety of health and safety courses for adults for work related requirements as well as emergency preparedness for family and community needs. Visit the chapter Web site, or call 703-368-4511 to find out more.
