Prince William» Park officials want public input on road, parking lot work

Prince William Forest Park is soliciting comment from the public on its plan to resurface public roads and parking lots within the national park.

This project is one of three American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 projects that Prince William Forest Park will complete by September 2010.

The National Park Service announced nearly 800 projects, totaling $750 million in nationwide funding from recovery and reinvestment act.

The proposed project at Prince William Forest Park will resurface, restore, rehabilitate and reconstruct park roadways and parking lots. It will replace signs, guardrails and culverts, and recondition stone and asphalt paved waterways.

It will also potentially expand two parking lots, D and E, and reconfigure the nine-mile Scenic Drive inter-section at mile marker two.

Park officials are soliciting comment through Aug. 15. Public comment will aid the park in avoiding ad-verse effects on park resources and visitors, according to park officials.

Members of the public can get a copy of the Environmental Assessment of the project online at the Na-tional Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment Web site: http://parkplanning.nps.gov, and selecting 'Prince William Forest Park' in the 'Choose a park' menu.

Print copies can be found at the following Prince William County libraries: Chinn Park, Potomac, Inde-pendent Hill and Dumfries, as well as at the park visitor center. Copies can also be obtained by contacting the park at 18100 Park Headquarters Road, Triangle, VA 22712 or by calling 703-221-2366.

Those wishing to comment on the project can do so online at parkplanning.nps.gov, click on the "comment on this document" link. Those wishing to comment in writing should send their comments to Superintendent, Prince William Forest Park, 18100 Park Headquarters Road, Triangle, VA 22172.

Officials request that the following information be included: name, address, phone number, e-mail address or other personal identifying information. Comments including personal identifying information may be made publicly available at any time. However, you can ask park officials to withhold personal identifying information from public review, but they cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.

The public will be able to follow the progress of each recovery and reinvestment project at www.recovery.gov and www.interior.gov/recovery/nps.
