Bristow man hospitalized after fire

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Never leave the room when a chicken is frying on the stove, said Prince William Fire Chief Joseph Robertson on Thursday night.

Fire and rescue crews were called to an apartment complex in the 9900 block of Gardenia Lane in Bristow just after 9 p.m., where a man was taken to the hospital because of a fire in his kitchen.

The man, identified only as an adult, was cooking the chicken in oil and left the pot unattended when the smoke and flames broke out. A neighbor saw the flames and dialed 911, but at the same time, Robertson said two sprinkler heads in the kitchen activated and extinguished the flames.

“From what I can tell the heat of the fire must have been intense because both sprinklers activated,” he said.

The man suffered injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The total amount of damage to the home was unclear at the time of this report.

Robertson said the fire has been ruled as accidental.
