Two people were displaced from their Triangle apartment Wednesday night after a fire gutted their kitchen.

Firefighters from the Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department were called to 18600 block of Triangle Street, just after 7 p.m.

Upon their arrival they found flames and heavy smoke bursting from an upper level apartment in the two-story complex, said Asst. Chief Jack Hoffman.

“The units advanced the hose line into the house after the occupant said everyone was out of the house,” said Hoffman.

The fire was brought under control in about five minutes, said Hoffman.

The apartment complex is owned by Action Through Community Service, or ACTS.

The agency uses the complex as transitional housing that provides homes to families, women and children who are looking to escape domestic abuse.

Once the flames had been extinguished the process of cleaning up and finding a place to stay for the night began.

“Luckily we are insured so I imagine our insurance company will cover the cost to repair it,” said Frances Harris, ACTS executive director, who was at the scene of the fire.

Harris said the Prince William Chapter of the Red Cross stepped in to provide a place for the fire victims to stay.

No one was injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
