Coming all the way from Alaska, the Alaska Children's Choir will present a free concert at 11 a.m. on July 3 in Manassas.
They will perform at the Mary Louise Jackson Amphitheater at the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College, 6901 Sudley Road.
The Manassas National Battlefield Park is co-hosting the program with the Manassas Campus.
The "Voices of Hope and Peace" concert is part of the Choir's Lincoln Bicentennial Concert Tour. Choir members will spend 11 days visiting the area's attractions while also performing at the Lincoln Memorial, Gettysburg National Military Park, Antietam National Battlefield and the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church where President Abraham Lincoln worshipped
Every summer the touring choir travel from home on a concert tour. It has traveled to the Pacific Northwest, Minnesota and New Orleans. International tours have taken them to England, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Germany, Austria, British Columbia, Australia and New Zealand.
Founded in 1979, the choir is dedicated to excellence in music education and choral singing, offering Southcentral Alaskan children the opportunity to train and perform to some of the highest artistic standards. Singers range in age from 5 to 18 and represent communities throughout the Southcentral area.
The choir has earned many awards at choral festival, including First Place Children's Choir in the 19th International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, Austria; Senior Youth Choir of the Year award at the Bouremouth Musicmaker's Festival in England; Trophy of Excellence in Children's Choral Singing at the Classic American Music Festival in Honolulu and Second Place Children's Choir in the International Oskarshamn Festival in Sweden.
