In response to Mr. Casula’s letter of June 18, it’s a shame that letters in support of political candidates now consist of little more than copy-and-paste from the Web sites of those candidates.
Mr. Casula falsely asserts that Delegate Marshall “consistently voted against transportation initiatives.” Nothing could be further from the truth.
Let’s be clear; Delegate Marshall voted against HB 3202, which violated the Constitutional rights of all Virginians. Passed by a bipartisan group of feckless state legislators, this rotten bill was the epitome
of “the ends justify the means.”
Delegate Marshall was the only legislator with the courage to stand up for his constituents in the face of an onslaught which included members of his own party. In fact, Bob felt so strongly about granting
taxation powers to unelected individuals that he spent his own money to bring the case before the Virginia Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of Delegate Marshall that the
legislation was unconstitutional.
Fellow voters of the 13th District, whether you’re Democrat or Republican I think we can all agree that this level of moral courage is uncommon in our politicians today. It’s clear that we can count on Bob
to do the right thing and stand up for his constituents, even when it’s difficult, and even when it requires that he stand against his own party to do so.
In November, I’ll be casting my vote in favor of Bob, to thank him for protecting my Constitutional rights as a Virginian. I’d encourage you to do the same.
