One man is in jail and another on the loose in the slaying of a house sitter in Woodbridge.
Jose Luis Salvador, Jr., 19, of 14220 Bremerton Drive in Dale City, was charged Wednesday with murder and accessory to murder before the fact, in the shooting death of David Enrique Melendez Lopez.
Lopez was found dead inside a home located in the 1300 block of Saxon Street by two men who were looking to shovel snow.
Police are still searching for another convicted felon they believe pulled the trigger on Lopez.
Ricardo Jairo Jauregui-Balbuena, 18, has been charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said 1st Sgt. Kim Chinn, Prince William police spokeswoman.
Chinn said Jauregui-Balbuena has black hair, brown eyes, is about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds.
Police were called to the home where Lopez was found dead around noon on Monday.
Initially police ruled his death accidental. An autopsy completed Wednesday morning revealed he died of a gunshot wound. Police then began the search for the killer.
Chinn said Lopez was house-sitting and taking care of the homeowner’s dog when he was shot. She did not say what a motive might have been.
According to court records Jauregui-Balbuena was convicted in Arlington Circuit Court last July on charges of cocaine possession.
He was sentenced to two years in prison, but was released to serve probation.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jauregui-Balbuena is asked to call Prince William County Crime Solvers, at 1-800-411-8477.
