A woman was killed Saturday when her car ran off a road, hit a transformer and then flipped over.
Edith Frey, 61, of 8634 Anna Court in Manassas Park, was driving her 2004 Saturn in the 8700 block of Quarry Road in Manassas just after 7 p.m. when she ran off the road and knocked over several traffic signs, said city police spokesman Tim Neumann.
After bowling over the signs, the car, with Frey and her 87-year-old passenger, Elfreda Cycholl, then hit an electrical transformer, said Neumann.
Cycholl was killed instantly.
Frey was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital, where she remains in critical condition, said Neumann.
Neumann said the circumstances of the crash were still under investigation.
“Right now we just don’t know if alcohol or speed was a factor,” said Neumann.
Just one person involved in a traffic accident in Manassas was killed last year. That crash happened at the intersection of Sudley Road and Grant Avenue, according to police reports.
In Prince William County 23 people were killed on the roads last year. A motorcyclist was among those fatalities, said police reports.
