Financial planner Cal Brown, vice president of The Monitor Group in McLean, will receive the 2009 Norma Sevens Leadership Award at a ceremony Monday in Bethesda, Md.

Brown currently resides in Gainesville and has been a Manassas area resident since 1993.

This award, being presented to Brown at the association’s 2009 Spring Symposium, is in recognition of his contribution to the growth and improvement of the financial planning profession.

The award is presented annually to an individual who offers extraordinary efforts on behalf or for the benefit of the local Financial Planning Association Chapter.

Brown entered the planning industry in 1984 and became a certified financial planner practitioner in 1990. He received his Masters of Science in taxation at American University in Washington and graduated cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is currently chairman of the National Capital Area Chapter.

Brown has three professional contributions published in the “Journal of Financial Planning” and has authored articles appearing in “Wealth Manager” and “Financial Planning” magazines.

The “Washingtonian” magazine recently named Brown as one of the top 33 financial planners in the greater Washington area.

Staff writer Bennie Scarton Jr. can be reached at 703-369-6707.
