Sorry about last week's column, thanks to my computer or the powers that be my column was evidently sent to "Never Never Land." However, all is not lost -- next year for Mother's Day I will just send that one again because it tells about my aunt being born on the first Mother's Day.
In my family things seem to happen on holidays. My mother was born on Memorial Day. I was born on Halloween and married on April Fool's Day. My sister's two boys were born on anniversary dates -- one was our parents and the other was mine. Makes it easier to remember their birthdays.
Changing times
Several things are coming up this coming week: On Tuesday at 11 a.m., "Times They are a Chang-ing'" will be presented by guest Vicki Graham, director of Action in the Community Through Ser-vice.
As we all know, changes are happening at the Senior Center. Change is many things to many people. Change can be exciting, scary, frustrating, stimulating and challenging. For certain, in every case, it requires adaptability.
Come join us as Vicki helps us explore the positive side of change. She will lead us in a lively discussion of adapt-ing and coping with changes.
Older Americans
Historically, Older Americans Month has been a time to acknowledge the contributions of past and current older persons to our country, in particular those who defended our country.
The Woodbridge Senior Center will be hosting the Older American's Month picnic Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at beautiful Leesylvania State Park on the Potomac River, down U.S. 1. Picnic will be under the No. 4 pavilion (a new eight-sided pavilion adjacent to the parking lot at the marina).
Make reservations at the front desk with $3 to confirm your space. Money will help defray cost of the picnic, as well as give you a free gate pass to get into the state park plus door prizes,
Don't forget your sunscreen, bug spray and lawn chair.
NASCAR fans alert
NASCAR fans start your engines at 11 a.m. and join us on May 22 as we race our cars around a giant game board. Be there for the checkered flag winner….Win, Place and Show prizes available. A $1 donation will hold your reser-vation. Money will support Win, Place or Show prizes.
