Track and Field Games set for Sunday in M. Park
The City of Manassas Park, Department of Parks and Recreation will host the local Hershey's Track and Field Games on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Manassas Park High School.
Boys and girls ages 9 to 14 will compete separately in track races such as the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4x100 relay and other events.
Participants will also have the opportunity to compete in one of two field events -- the standing long jump or the softball throw. The event is free and those interested can pre-register by calling Tony Thomas at 703-335-8862 or e-mailing t.thomas@manassas parkva.gov.
Buckhall Church to host potluck lunch Sunday
Buckhall United Methodist Church will host a community potluck at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Those interested can bring a dish to share, and your own dishes and silverware to eat from as the group is going "green."
In addition to the food, there will be pick-up basketball and volleyball.
The church is located at 10251 Moore Drive, Manassas.
Local author, illustrator will sign children's book
Author and illustrator Karen R. Weaver and Pat Clark will have a book signing May 23 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Center for the Arts, 9419 Battle St., Old Town Manassas.
They wrote and illustrated the children's book, "Be Kind, Francis the Fly."
Gainesville coffee house supporting cancer victim
Deja Brew Coffee House in Gainesville will donate 10 percent of its sales Saturday to the Fauquier Relay for Life Team Costis.
Nine-year-old Matthew Costis, whose father, Tom, works at Stonewall Jackson High School, has been fighting a brain tumor for more than a year.
In addition, Deja Brew will also provide shirts for Team Costis, which will participate in the Fauquier Relay for Life on May 30 and 31.
Stop by the shop for a hand-pulled espresso drink and a homemade pastry, or if the weather is warm, enjoy a 100 percent crushed fruit smoothie. Deja Brew will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Manassas Martial Arts holds fundrasier today
The Manassas Martial Arts school, 8848 Rixlew Lane, Manassas will host a fundraiser today for the Kessier Institute Rehabilative Center serving returning soldiers with brain injuries.
A multi-family yard sale will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., a bake sale from noon to 5 p.m., snow cones from noon to 5 p.m. and a kick and punch-a-thon from 3 to 5 p.m.
