Manassas area man faces embezzlement charge

A Manassas-area man has been charged with embezzling from the Fairfax County Park Authority, police said Friday.

Brian Keith Johnson, 44, of 9549 Covington Place near Manassas, turned himself in at the West Springfield District police station, according to Fairfax County police.

He was taken to the Fairfax County jail and charged with embezzlement Thursday.

The Park Authority contacted police in early March after supervisors at the South Run RECenter discovered discrepancies in the financial records for the field house, police said.

An investigation revealed that a group was paying money to use the field house at night, but an employee was keeping the payment instead of entering it in the accounting system.

Detectives determined the scam was going on since October.
