Chamber awards $1,000 scholarships

The following students each received $1,000 scholarships from the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce at the annual Education Honor Roll Breakfast held at Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club on April 28: Rosa Alfara, Gar-Field; Amy M. Haydon PTA schedules yard sale May 30

Haydon Elementary PTA will hold a yard sale May 30 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can rent a space for $20 or two spots for $30. It is also looking for donations of items to sell. The money raised will go toward the end-of-the-year party for fourth-graders.

Forest Park Boosters hold flea market

Help support the band music programs at Forest Park by joining the Forest Park Bruin Band Boosters at their Spring Flea Market in the Forest Park High School parking lot this Saturday from 7 to 11 a.m. They also invite you to see the fruit of their efforts, made possible by community support, at the Spring Band Concert on May 20 at 7 p.m. in the Forest Park auditorium.

Manassas police, schools to hold safety forum

A “Parent Information Safety Night,” sponsored by Manassas City Public Schools and the Manassas City Police Department, will be May 27 in Osbourn High School’s auditorium from 7 to 9 p.m. This public forum will address cyber bullying and cell phone safety. The committee for this forum has also invited several stakeholders from the technology outreach community to take part.

Preschoolers can get creative at program

A summer program of activities for children is available at “Creative Preschool Plus” through Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation. This is for children who are going to be 5 years old by Sept. 1.

Call 703-497-7112 for information about fees, registration, and weekly schedule. The summer program begins June 29, and is open to both LRPRA members and non-members.

Woodbridge booster club sponsors golf event

A golf classic, sponsored by the Viking Athletic Booster Club at Woodbridge Senior High School, will be June 19 at the Osprey Golf Club at Belmont Bay.

Class helps parents with family dynamics

If you or someone you know would like help with family dynamics of parenting, please contact the Prince William Office of Virginia Cooperative Extension for information about the “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting.”

Please call 703-792-6288. Classes in both English and Spanish are offered. Classes dealing with teens will be Tuesday through June 30 at the McCoart Government Building.
