Historic Dumfries, Virginia invites you to participate in a living history event marking the 235th anniversary of the Prince William Resolves. On June 6 at 2 and 3:30 p.m. at the Dumfries Community Center, join re-enactors portraying Virginians such as George Mason and Henry Lee, as they debate the “Prince William Resolves, June 6, 1774.” Let your voice be heard and vote for freedom — or will you remain loyal to the King?

New hours at library
Starting this weekend, the Dumfries Neighborhood library will have new hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday; closed Friday and Sunday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
County park offers summer programs
Rediscover play without power cords! Attend one of the programs offered at Prince William Forest Park.
Daily the park holds Rock’n the Forest, a 15-minute journey through 150 million years of forest history. Meet at the petrified wood tree stump in front of the visitor center daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about the natural history of the park.
On Saturdays through June 6 and Sundays, June 13 and July 5 attend for the Early Birders Bird Walk. Join Ranger Kelly on a 1 ½-hour walk identifying avian residents. Bring binoculars and good walking shoes. Meet at the visitor center at 7:30 a.m.
Tour the site of the 19th century Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine every Wednesday and on the last Saturday of each month at 10:30 a.m. to learn about its impact on the community. Wear hiking boots. This takes place Meet at parking lot D for this moderate 2.5-mile hike with hills and rocky terrain.
On Fridays and the second Saturday of every month, try the Piedmont Forest Hike lead by rangers and volunteers, and learn about the park’s past, present and hopeful future. Meet at the Oak Ridge Campground parking lot at 10:30 a.m. for this moderately difficult 2.5-mile hike, with hills.
Every Thursday and the first and third Saturday of each month the park hosts a Historic Cabin Camp Tour at 10:30 a.m. The camps in the park tell stories of struggle and triumph during the Great Depression and valor and bravery during World War II. Take the tour of Cabin Camp 3. Meet at the cabin camp parking lot for this moderately difficult 1-mile walk with uneven surfaces.
