During the recent clearing of properties on U.S. 1 in Triangle, I noticed dozens and dozens of high quality shrubs that were bulldozed over.
I realize it would in fact have cost money to dig up those plants and replant them, but I think in the spirit of “recycling” it could have been done and still have saved the county/state money. This could have
resulted in “our” not having to spend so much in landscape fees in other areas, i.e. new schools, parks, etc. Heaven only knows our “government(s)’ is not known for “thinking out of the box.”
It was just a shame to see beautiful plants destroyed. I would hope that the county or state arborist take this concept of reutilization under consideration and implement a program to save future greenery.
I would suspect the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of shrubbery at our now closed rest areas will suffer the same fate.
I don’t believe this to be a penny wise-pound foolish endeavor but rather a legitimate use and good stewardship of our environment. I don’t always agree with the extreme opinions of many of our “greenie”
friends, but this idea certainly has merit. I hope somebody takes the bull by the horns.
